It's different in here.

A message about “that Slate thing”.

My co-writer, Grady Hendrix, and I recently contributed an article to Slate about our experiences so far as writers new to the world of YA literature.

We spend five to six hours a day in the chair alone writing and rewriting these books. We joke to make ourselves feel better, and I’m afraid our irony did not translate.

I was taken completely by surprise at the backlash. I didn’t mean to insult the industry that I’ve grown to love, and I’d like to apologize for the tone of the article.  We intended for the piece to be a humorous recounting of our experience. I love my characters and I love my books; they are often all I have and trust throughout the long day. I was unfaithful to them.  They deserve better.

We’re working hard on the next installment of the series and hope our fans will hang on for the next book, out in April 2012…
